A magnitude 7.1 earthquake occurred off the central coast of Peru, igniting fears of a tsunami early Sunday morning.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami alert for the coast of Peru shortly after the earthquake, warning that hazardous tsunami waves were possible.
However, all advisories were canceled a little over an hour after the first alert was issued. No tsunami waves were observed.
